I grew up in the Texas panhandle where my parents ran their own oilfield service company.  My mother did the bookwork for that company and often showed me how to maintain the books. (Little did I know how useful that would one day be!) I attended NSU in Tahlequah, OK, majoring in English and minoring in Journalism.  I picked up a few classes in accounting along the way, “just in case.”  I graduated in 1986 with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education and taught Language Arts and Journalism for 25 years in Texas.

When Allen decided to open A&A Supply, I was able to draw on my background in accounting to set up the bookkeeping system for the company.  I initially did the company’s bookwork from our home in Texas while still teaching full time. Allen operated the store in West Virginia and came home when he could.  Eventually, the company grew to the point that it warranted a full time bookkeeper.  At that point, a decision had to be made . . . hire a bookkeeper or have me resign and join Allen in West Virginia full time.  In the end, the choice was clear—life is too short to spend that much time away from your spouse. I left my teaching job at the end of the 2011/2012 school year and joined Allen in West Virginia.

Allen and I live above the store and are enjoying meeting the people of West Virginia and exploring this beautiful state.  Living on location makes it easier to provide the kind of customer service Allen believes in and I am learning so much about running a retail store.  You are never too old to start a new career and running a family business is more exciting than I ever imagined.

Come on by . . . I always keep the coffee fresh and ready!
